I encourage you to read Roger Pielke Jr’s post, Climate Science is About to Make a Huge Mistake, over at his Substack, The Honest Broker. I’ve pasted a link below.
Roger is a widely-published climate researcher. He believes in the importance of studying human impacts on climate change and making sensible policy choices. But he is also alert to the natural human tendency, spurred by the need for exposure, funding, career advancement, etc. to, ahem, stretch the limits of current knowledge in the direction of favored conclusions. Hence the name of his Substack, The Honest Broker.
The post I’m sharing is technical, but worth a read. It concerns the perpetuation of an extreme scenario for the pathway of future emissions that has been shown to be increasingly implausible. While useful for scientists in putting climate models through their paces, this scenario is not ideal for use in policy analysis. But it very often gets used anyway, to the detriment of policymakers and the public interest.
Note bene: Don’t try to share Roger’s post on Facebook, where it has been censored.
Thank you for sharing David! With good wishes for a Happy Father’s Day! 🙏🏻🎉
